Artist Statement

With the use of bold drawing, and working from my subjective response to social systems, cultural and historic developments I have produced a series of work entitled Hong Kong Is Not China to express the difference between Hong Kong and Mainland Chinese society.

The Hong Kong ancient maps have no uniform standard of measurement and proportion. This series is developed from ancient maps of Hong Kong during the Ming dynasty, Qing dynasty and British colonial era. Through the painstaking process of re-creating these ancient maps, the unique history of Hong Kong has been unveiled.

Local Studio HK was established in 2015, it combines art, design, local and international social issues into a witty but socially provocative comment on the culture and politics of Hong Kong and investigates its perceived place in the international diaspora.
